2smile Drops Two ‘Tribute To Frikkyo’ Remixes on Ondawey Music Imprint

French production duo 2smile have unveiled a remix compilation of their track ‘Tribute To Frikkyo’, initially dedicated to the late DJ Da Frikkyo, a notable figure in the Italian hard techno scene. Released under their Ondawey Music label, this revisitation of their standout single includes two fresh remixes: one by Alex Fixman and an Afro Rework by the duo themselves. 2smile’s musical style traverses Melodic Techno, Tech House, and Afro House across their discography, which spans over 100 unreleased tracks, showcasing their adeptness at blending genres and drawing from diverse musical influences.

The original track received acclaim from industry luminaries such as Laurent Garnier, Terry Francis, and Paco Osuna. Conceived on the night of Frikkyo’s passing, it reflects a deeply spiritual creative process guided by ethereal influences. The composition merges dynamic guitars, deep basslines, and sampled vocals from Fela Kuti to craft a poignant homage to their departed friend.

Alex Fixman’s remix retains the original’s hypnotic essence while delving into deeper Techno realms with breakbeat elements, promising broad appeal through its resonant basslines and commanding kick drum. Meanwhile, 2smile’s own remix features robust drum patterns and evolving experimental guitar riffs, taking a more direct approach compared to the original. It incorporates well-timed effects and sustains an engaging groove that invites further exploration into its sonic landscape.
