Q&A with Spanish techno artist, Finalversion3

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of presenting the premiere of ‘Boca Que Arrastra Mi Boca’, the closing cut of Finalversion3’s new EP “La Estructura del Silencio”, released via Newrhythmic Records on June 17th, 2020.

We shared some questions with the mysterious techno artist to learn more about his musical journey so far and what lies ahead in the foreseeable future.

Who were your first musical influences that you can remember? Who inspired you to start producing music?

Since I was a child I’ve been related to electronic music. My uncle was in love with “La Ruta Destroy” (a musical movement developed in Valencia in the 80’s and 90’s). I went to his home just to watch him play with his Technics. After that, when I was 11 I discovered Moby and two years later I started producing with Fruity Loops just to copy him. I was in love with the emotion of his music and I wanted to do something similar. However, over time I’ve become more interested in sound design and Techno.

What would you like to achieve with your music? What does success look like to you?

As an artist I want to develop my own sound and have my own rules in the music I make. I really like artists who have their own way to make music and you can recognize their elements: their kicks, their synths… As a persona, I want to achieve all the objectives I could have in my mind at that moment and be sure that I’m doing my best for it. As a worker, I would like to have to have a big amount of time to make and research music, so my main goal is to earn enough money in order to avoid needing a part-time job.

What does your current software/hardware setup currently consist of?

Ableton 10, Moog Mother 32, Volca FM, Proco Rat 2, Omnisphere, Sylenth, Massive, Serum, Rob Papen Sub BoomBass 2, Soundtoys, Waves and the gear of my friends haha. I make almost everything on my computer but I work my mixdown in the incredible soundsystem of Millenia Estudios: a pair of Genelec 1037B in a perfect critical listening room.

Outside of music, what inspires you?

I love cooking; I love to take analogic photos; writing; I used to love drawing a lot… since I was a child I’m in love with doing anything I can focus on and enjoy it for hours.

What kind of relationship do you have with the internet? How does this inform your artistic expression?

I work on social media for musical projects (a Recording Studio / Clubs / Festivals…) so “unfortunately” I spend most of my time on the internet. There is a lot of noise, a lot of hate and lots of useless distractions, but if you follow the correct people and avoid the toxic ones you can learn tons of things and be easily inspired or motivated.

As a performer or as a member of the audience, what single show has been the most memorable for you?

As a performer, I love to play in my residency at Club Gordo surrounded by friends, but playing in clubs like Metro Dance Club or festivals like Manrusionica is a different experience that I enjoy too. I’ve played at both several times and the vibe is amazing. As a member of the audience, my top 5 is Oscar Mulero at Reaktor, Donato Dozzy at Parallel Festival, Blawan at Temp Amsterdam, Aphex Twin at Funkhaus and James Blake at Primavera Sound.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar?

SSTROM, Oxygeno, LPP, No Spiritual Surrender, Notzing, Irazu, Augusto Taito, S.E.R.E.S., Feral and just to make some spam my project with Moy Santana: Fase Bipolar.

Please suggest an album for us to listen to.

Non-techno: Fasenuova “Aullidos Metálicos”

Techno: SSTROM “Drenched 1-4” “Drenched 5-8” and “Drenched 9-12”.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

I hope clubbing could easily recover from the Covid-19 so that clubs, festivals and artists were able to rise from our ashes. I have two club residencies: one in Club Gordo (Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona) and another one at Upper Club Madrid, so I’m really excited about playing again. I’m so happy with my EP “La Estructura del Silencio”, out on Newrhythmic and I’m working in new music as Finalversion3. I’m going to release a new EP as “Fase Bipolar” with my partner Moy Santana. It will be out in July on Sungate.
